On June 2, join the UWF Archaeology Institute and Historic St. Michael's Cemetery Foundation as they welcome Jonathan Appell. Appell will be visiting Historic St. Michael's Cemetery and conducting a tour and workshop as part of Appell’s 48-state tour, “Restoring America’s Cemeteries.”

For the past 20 years, Appell has collaborated with numerous people and organizations from across the nation to preserve gravestones and monuments. He has developed and used his hands-on techniques to help create a movement restoring America's burying grounds.

The public is welcome to join Thursday, June 2 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Historic St. Michael’s Cemetery.  Guests are welcome to attend the days activities, which will include the following:

  • An overview and discussion on historic preservation with a focus on masonry, cemeteries, and gravestones

  • Interactive tour allowing guests to visually survey the existing conditions of the gravestones and monuments on site

  • Gravestone cleaning demonstration

  • Gravestone guest adoption and cleaning
